My reaction? About f'in time.
Hello everyone,
I know that many of you have been waiting in anticipation for nearly 2 years now for word on when ProBoards Version 4 would be released. The time has come for me to officially announce what the release date for Version 4 will be.
Before I say what the date will be, let me give you a little background on what has gone on with this project.
ProBoards Version 3, which was released just over 2 years ago, was a good step for us. It implemented many changes based on suggestions from our members and improved the overall speed of the forums. I want to give you an idea of what kind of leap ProBoards Version 4 will be from this current version.
There are over 120 new features in ProBoards Version 4. All of the new features have not yet been announced, but many unannounced features were discovered when the open beta started (such as our new spell check feature). There will be many more surprises in store for all members when the version 4 upgrade comes with many new admin functions available to all of you.
To give you a little idea as to where Version 4 stands at this moment, I would say that it is at 90% completion. That being said, I do have a realistic goal in mind for a release date.
One final thing I would like to say before stating the official date, is a big thank you to our private beta testers, and thank you to all ProBoards members for your support and testing in the Open Beta.
If you have gotten this far, then you must be waiting in anticipation, so I won't hold you back any longer from what you want. The official release date for ProBoards Version 4 will be Saturday, April 30th, 2005.
It is important to note that the upgrade can result in up to 24 hours of downtime per server. We hope to keep the downtime to a level much lower than this, but we can not make any guarantees for such a large upgrade. We will be upgrading servers to version 4 in groups, and therefore not all servers will be upgraded on the 30th. It may take up to a week before all servers are upgraded successfully to version 4.
Thank you very much for your support of ProBoards and your patience throughout this project which has been in the works for nearly 2 years now.
Patrick
